Glass door accident at Sogo store injures one

A man was injured last Friday when a glass door collapsed at a ground floor exit at Sogo department store in Causeway Bay, Apple Daily reported over the weekend.

The accident took place as a bearing came loose at the door, causing it to topple over, according to the report.

A 39-year-old man surnamed Mak was hurt as he made an unsuccessful attempt to prevent the door from falling to the ground.

He was taken to a hospital as he suffered leg injuries after the door, which measured 8 feet by 3 feet and was heavy, bore down on his left foot.

According to the report, Mak may require minor surgery.

A Sogo spokesman was quoted as saying that it was the first accident of its kind in the Causeway Bay store’s history.

He stressed that it was an isolated incident, and that an investigation has been launched.

Meanwhile, company officials have apologized to Mak and are making efforts to ensure his well-being.
