Wedding pics of baby-faced couple fuel heated debate in China

Social media forums in China are abuzz with debates on early marriage after wedding photos of a couple who were both yet to turn 16 surfaced online.

Netizens were astounded at pictures of the two baby-faced newly weds, given that delayed marriage and late parenthood have been the prevailing trends in China in recent years.

The child couple was from Mashan County in the southern Guangxi province, according to Beijing News.

The bride, identified by the media as Wu Mingmin, was born in October 2000, while the groom, Zhang Jiale, was born in September 2000.

They got married and posted pictures of them in their wedding outfits.

“With love comes responsibility. The husband needs to support his wife and parents, but I understand that I do not have the ability to do all these yet,” Zhang was quoted as saying.

Wu said she got married to Zhang on Feb. 15 and that the wedding photos soon went viral among her circle of friends on social media.

The news of their early marriage was widely reported by various media outlets.

Wu said their parents were fully supportive of their decision. Otherwise, the elders would not have forked out a large sum of money on a wedding banquet, she said.

She denied that they married early because of pregnancy.
