Four burglars dressed in school uniforms were caught trying to break into several flats at a public housing estate in Tin Shui Wai on Tuesday, Headline Daily reports.
Police found master keys in their possession.
Two more suspects, apparently members of the same gang, were arrested at Tin Shui Estate later in the evening.
The Yuen Long regional crime unit set up the operation after a review of video footage from security cameras showed suspicious-looking individuals entering several public housing estates in the area, apparently to scout for burglary targets.
The suspects were dressed in blue cardigans and grey trousers, resembling secondary school uniforms.
Police arrested the four suspects, who arrived in a private car, as they were about to go upstairs at Tin Shui House.
One of the suspects had a handwritten note with several addresses in Tseung Kwan O, which could well be the gang’s next targets.
A resident said Tin Shui House has grade A security facilities, including steel gates and CCTV cameras. Security guards also regularly patrol the compound.
However, non-residents could easily sneak into the building as there are just too many people passing the security guards’ counters every day, the resident said.
