Missing retired judge found dead in Lantau

Retired High Court judge John James Rhind, who went missing this week after leaving his apartment at Pui O, was found lying dead on a rocky beach near Tong Fuk Village in Lantau Island, reports say.

Police have confirmed that a body found washed up on some rocks Thursday morning in the waters between Lo Kei Wan and Shui Hau Wan was that of Rhind, according to Ming Pao.

As the body was spotted in an area difficult to reach, the Fire Services Department is said to have sent six divers to assist in the retrieval.

Rhind’s 91-year-old wife reported to the police on Tuesday that her husband went missing after leaving home for a walk.

Rhind, 80, began his Hong Kong law practice in 1965. He served as a High Court justice from 1980 until his retirement in 1994.
