A flower vendor is having buyer’s remorse for being too trusting.
When the woman, surnamed Leung, bought a customer’s story that he was looking for flowers for his wife, she did what others would do — sell the man the blooms.
She turned around to get the flowers and when she came back, the man was gone, along with HK$10,000 (US$1,288) and a mobile phone from her bag and another HK$1,000 from the till, Apple Daily reports.
It turns out the customer had an accomplice who did the stealing while he created a diversion.
And the woman might not have found out she had been robbed, having noticed nothing suspicious at first, investigators said.
It was not until much later that the theft was revealed when the woman checked her bag and the cash register.
A check with the store camera shows a man in a coat apparently creating a diversion. It shows another man, apparently an accomplice, pulling off the theft.
Police are looking for two men described as South Asian.
