Caught on CCTV: Female thief snaps up shopper’s iPhone6 Plus

Police are looking for a woman caught on a surveillance camera stealing the iPhone of a shopper at a supermarket in Causeway Bay.

The victim, surnamed Cheng, told police the incident took place around 8 p.m. on Monday while she was buying some apples at the City’super outlet at Times Square.

She said she momentarily left her opened handbag containing an iPhone6 Plus on the shopping trolley as she bent down to pick up an apple that fell to the ground, only to find out later that her mobile phone was missing.

She asked help from a security guard, who then retrieved video clips taken by in-store security cameras to determine what happend.

A footage shows a woman in dark jacket walking around Cheng before she swiftly took away the iPhone in a few seconds while Cheng bent down.

Police suspected the woman was a professional thief based on the quick and smooth way she carried out the theft.

Cheng also went to a nearby Apple Store for help, but staff there failed to trace the location of her phone via the Find My iPhone application.

Cheng, who is a jewelry wholesaler, said she could only hope data about her more than 500 customers stored on the phone will not be misused.
