Man arrested after third-time theft at Sham Shui Po bread shop

A 68-year-old man, said to have difficulty in walking, was arrested for theft at a bread shop in Sham Shui Po.

It was the third time the suspect, surnamed Leung, tried to steal from the shop, Headline Daily reports.

Leung had been caught twice before for stealing money from the shop, but the shop owner, surnamed Yip, did not report him to the police out of sympathy for his disability.

However, Yip said he could not take it anymore when he did it for the third time, and decided to turn him in to the police.

Leung was alleged to have grabbed HK$30 from a bucket used by the shop to store proceeds from selling bread.

Leung was about to exit the bread shop but was stopped by a female shopkeeper, and the people outside the shop formed a “human chain” to stop him from fleeing.

Yip said the man does not look like a resident in the neighborhood, otherwise he would have offered him bread for free and he would not need to steal.
