Good Satay restaurant in Houston Center in Tsim Sha Tsui is closing after 33 years, a victim of high rent.
The restaurant said it will close its doors for the last time on April 17, standnews.com reports.
An employee, surnamed Cheung, said the owner decided to shut down the business after the landlord put up the rent 10 percent.
The increase was on top of waste management costs passed to the restaurant by the building owner.
Cheung, who has been working in Good Satay since shortly after it opened, said progress is “not encouraging” when asked about any plans to move to new premises.
Good Satay is famous for its signature Hainan chicken rice, laksa noodles and satay skewers, according to Ming Pao Daily.
News of the store closing down has been spreading on Facebook, with many netizens hailing its tasty and affordable dishes.
