Woman’s weird cross-harbor round-trip taxi ride has bizarre end

A 22-year-old woman who racked up HK$440 in taxi fare for a ride across the harbor and back ended up under arrest after she stole a guitar, a speaker and a doll from a student union office in Tsim Sha Tsui.

She was caught by students in Polytechnic University while trying to escape with the loot to a waiting taxi, Apple Daily reports.

The woman had taken the taxi from Observatory Road in Tsim Sha Tsui to South Horizons in Aberdeen where she bought some supplies from a convenience store for a junk picnic.

She told the driver to bring her back to Tsim Sha Tsui pier but later said the boat had left.

The woman then asked to be driven to the Polytechnic where she alighted after telling the driver to wait and keep the meter running.

She went to the student union office where she was caught trying to sneak out with the stolen items, police said.

A school official later said the woman is not a student in the university.

And as it turned out, she had no money to pay for the joyride.
