Filipina held over dead infant found in shopping mall toilet

A Filipino domestic helper is under custody, facing unspecified charges, after a dead newborn baby was found in a shopping mall toilet last week.

The 37-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday after an extensive search using footage from a security camera, Apple Daily reports.

She is being held in a police jail, pending further investigation.

The suspect confessed to giving birth to a stillborn infant and dumping it in a shopping mall toilet in Sham Tseng in the New Territories, investigators said.

The baby was found by a clerk in Chan Kee Plaza on the night of April 4. It was wrapped in plastic with the placenta and umbilical cord still intact.

Forensic investigators said the infant had no injuries and had been dead for more than 48 hours.

The suspect recently quit her job with a Tsuen Wan family, according to Ming Pao Daily.
