Shanghainese tourist arrives to a shock welcome

A Shanghainese tourist spent his first hours in Hong Kong in hospital after a taxi that was bringing him to his hotel turned turtle on a highway.

The 22-year-old man, surnamed Sun, arrived in Hong Kong shortly after midnight Wednesday and boarded a taxi to Harbour Plaza hotel in Hung Hom.

He never reached his destination. Instead, he was forced to make a hospital detour.

The taxi driver, surnamed Wong, 56, said he swerved to avoid an oncoming car on Tsing Sha Highway and lost control of the vehicle, Apple Daily reports.

The taxi flipped, trapping the two inside. They crawled out of the overturned vehicle before being rescued.

The taxi was heavily damaged.
