Have you ever experienced not being able to feed your pet because of work or travel?
Now, it can be done remotely on a smartphone app.
In this year’s Guangzhou International Pet Industry Fair, one of the popular booths was from I Pet Interactive Technology, featuring the firm’s latest offering –Pet-Tower.
With a smartphone, the device can remotely control a pet feeder — from setting feeding time to adjusting the amount of food.
But Pet-Tower is more than a mechanical food dispenser. It allows the owner to interact with the pet on the internet through a built-in camera.
The owner can also take selfie videos, store them on the feeder and play them at scheduled feeding times to call the pet.
These videos can also be used to attract the pets, prevent pet boredom and discourage destructive behavior when owners are away, company representative Liang Dawei told the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
Although it is a pet product, quite a lot of technology has gone into it.
It has a sensor that records and monitors food intake and offers an online vet support to help owners deal with emergencies.
Backup power, international safety standards and a water-resistant design are packed into the machine.
Core team members are from Canada, Hong Kong and China, each contributing different expertise that ranges from statistics, biotechnology, pet knowledge, hardware and finance.
The company has a smart business model.
In addition to selling the product, Pet-Tower stores feeding records in the cloud. The data can then be mined to generate pet product recommendations.
If customers place orders, they can get bonus points convertible into pet services.
