Hong Kong passenger loses US$260,000 in mid-air theft

A Turkish businessman lost HK$2 million (US$257,730) in cash and valuables from his hand luggage during an Emirates flight to Hong Kong, police said.

The 39-year-old watch merchant, who was flying in economy class from Dubai, said he lost two watches and foreign currency, the BBC News reported, citing local reports.

Airline staff, after being told of the mid-air theft, reported the case to the police.

A spokesperson for Emirates told the BBC: “Emirates is working closely with the police department and providing information to assist with their investigation.”
