Man jailed 21 years for repeatedly raping 5-year-old daughter

A man who repeatedly raped his five-year-old daughter for three years has been sentenced to 21 years in prison after the judge condemned him for being “utterly devoid of conscience”.

The jobless man in his 60s was convicted by a six-member jury on six counts of rape and four counts of child pornography, Sing Tao Daily reports.

“Animals have parental love for their children, while the defendant as a human, the soul of the universe, used his own daughter to sate his lust,” High Court Justice Maggie Poon said.

The man began raping his daughter, who was born in the mainland, in 2011, the court heard.

The girl’s mother, a mainlander who had no Hong Kong residence permit at the time, had rarely been able to make the cross-border trips to visit her.

Now nine, the girl told the court she was beaten and starved unless she gave in to her father.

She was raped more than 100 times over those three years, the court heard.

The defendant denied the charges and tried to blame the rape on the girl’s half-brother from a different father.

He claimed that the girl’s mother had framed him.

But Justice Poon rejected his argument, saying his attempt to blame others was shameless and calling him “the scum of society”.

She denounced the defendant as a remorseless man, adding that by inflicting pain on a young victim, he violated society’s trust.

Quoting Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, Poon said there is “nothing in childhood as strong as the need for a father’s protection”.
