If you aren’t one of the five winners who shared the HK$100 million (US$12.88 million) Mark Six super jackpot on March 1, you have the chance to win an even bigger prize.
There were long lines Monday at many Jockey Club betting outlets in Hong Kong for Tuesday’s draw.
The winners will share a record jackpot of HK$150 million that snowballed after eight consecutive draws produced no jackpot winner, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reported.
The total amount bet by punters reached HK$180 million by 9 p.m. Monday, data from the Jockey Club showed.
The outlets will stop taking bets at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday. The draw begins at 9:30 p.m.
No single punter has ever won a prize worth more than HK$100 million in the history of Mark Six, Apple Daily reported.
The highest prize won by a single punter was HK$90,951,590, in the draw on Dec. 10, 2013.
Tuesday’s jackpot will equal the HK$150 million two winners shared on Sept. 13, 2014.
The chances of winning the jackpot are one in 13,983,816.
If you are lucky enough to be the winner of Tuesday’s jackpot, you could take a lesson from Jagpal Singh, who won HK$44.51 million after betting only HK$40 in May 2011, when he was an employee at a printing company.
Singh, a Hongkonger of Indian heritage, invested part of the money in four properties soon afterward — three flats at Caribbean Coast in Tung Chung and one in Western District — news website hk01.com reported.
Their value has risen by as much as 30 percent, showing that Singh is not only lucky but also knows how to turn money into more money.
