Young expectant mother jumps to death in Shek Kip Mei

A pregnant woman jumped to her death from a public housing building in Shek Kip Mei late Tuesday afternoon, Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) reports.

The 19-year-old woman, surnamed Ng, was believed to be nine months pregnant with her first child and was visiting her godmother at Mei Leong House of Shek Kip Mei Estate at the time, according to Apple Daily.

Ng, a clerk, plunged from a window on the 18th floor while her godmother was taking a nap, and landed on the windshield of a van parked downstairs.

She was found unconscious by paramedics and was rushed to a hospital, where she and her unborn baby were pronounced dead.

The baby had been due for delivery by the end of the month.

Ng probably suffered from pre-natal depression and was seen to be very emotional lately, sources said, adding that the woman had feared great difficulties in raising a child.

Ng’s husband was devastated by the news.

At one point, police had to summon Tactical Unit officers to search the building after hearing Ng’s husband keep saying he had lost a baby.

Police later confirmed that he was talking about Ng’s unborn baby.
