Sand-throwing robbers get away with HK$60,000 in Tai Kok Tsui

A woman was robbed of valuables worth almost HK$60,000 (US$7,727) by two men who threw sand into her eyes to momentarily blind her, Headline Daily reported Friday.

The 52-year-old woman was walking past the junction of Fuk Tsun Street and Walnut Street in Tai Kok Tsui in the small hours Friday.

Two men came from behind, and one of them threw sand into her eyes.

The other grabbed her backpack and handbag, with a HK$7,000 watch, HK$5,000 smartphone and HK$47,000 cash inside.

The robbers hopped onto a private car and headed in the direction of Prince Edward, Apple Daily reported.

Passersby helped the woman call police.

She was taken to hospital for treatment.

The woman returned to the crime scene to assist police in their investigation, but police were unable to find any suspicious people in the neighborhood.
