Hong Kong woman killed in Thailand boating accident

A Hong Kong woman died after a speedboat capsized off a popular tourist resort in Thailand.

A British woman was also killed and a British man is missing, The Telegraph reports.

Another British national was injured in the accident near the popular tourist island of Koh Samui, according to the Foreign Office.

Thai police said there were 32 passengers and four crew on the boat, which was travelling from Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park when it capsized on Thursday afternoon.

Thirty people in the group are said to have been rescued by a passing boat, with some of them having suffered minor injuries.

There are no details about the Hong Kong fatality.

The speedboat overturned in heavy seas while headed for Lomphraya pier near Wat Na Phra Lan.

Koh Samui is one of Thailand’s largest islands and is popular with British tourists.

In April last year, a ferry travelling between Krabi and Phuket in southern Thailand caught fire and sank, resulting in one death.
