Suspected serial burglar falls after failing to produce ID

An illegal immigrant suspected of a series of burglaries going back seven years was arrested on Thursday after a routine identity check.

The 38-year-old man from Hunan province was held by the authorities when he failed to produce identity documents after being stopped by the police in the North Point MTR station, TVB reports, citing investigators.

A gold medal, a watch and foreign currency worth HK$20,000 (US$2,580) were found on him.

The loot was traced to a Repulse Bay robbery on Monday, the police said.

The man is suspected of 15 burglaries since 2009 in which HK$380,000 worth of valuables were stolen, mostly in Repulse Bay and Happy Valley.

Headline Daily described the suspect as 38 years old and five feet tall.
