Sunbathing deck, floating swimming pool eyed for Victoria Harbor

A sunbathing deck and a floating swimming pool are being planned for Victoria Harbor.

The proposed facilities will be built near a former public cargo depot in Causeway Bay, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports, citing a blog post by Secretary for Development Paul Chan.

A “sunset plaza” is also in the pipeline which would allow visitors spectacular views of the Hong Kong sunset from the Wan Chai promenade, he said.

Chan said the projects are expected to appeal to locals and foreigners alike because of the diversity of attractions on the 73 km. Victoria Harbor coastline.

He gave no time lines.

Chan said the Harborfront Commission and the Planning Department cited a public consultation which shows Hong Kong people want to make harborfront areas more accessible.

The second phase of the consultation will start next month.

Chan said plans are under way to build four footbridges in the Wan Chai and North Point waterfront areas to MTR stations.

The Development Bureau is proposing an East Coast-style park in North Point, linking pedestrian walks, Victoria Park and the Eastern Corridor over three kilometers.

Ivan Ho, a member of the Harborfront Commission, said the plans are intended to encourage the public to take part in recreational activities.
