Republican Donald Trump is calling Hillary Clinton, his presumptive Democratic rival for the White House, the “most corrupt person ever to seek the presidency” as he tries to regain his footing in the presidential race.
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Trump is accusing Clinton of using her position as secretary of state during President Barack Obama’s first term to enrich herself.
Trump also said her policies destabilized the Middle East and North Africa after she and her husband allegedly accepted speaking fees and contributions to their family’s charitable foundation from Wall Street and shady governments.
“Hillary Clinton has perfected the politics of personal profit and even theft,” Trump was quoted as saying by the Wall Street Journal.
“She ran the State Department like her own personal hedge fund, doing favors for oppressive regimes, and many others…in exchange for cash, pure and simple. Pure and simple.”
Clinton supporters hurled their own salvos hours before Trump’s speech with memos attacking the New York businessman as unethical and challenging the accuracy of many of his assertions.
“The only thing Donald Trump offered today was more hypocritical lies and nutty conspiracy theories,” Clinton spokesman Glen Caplin said.
