Chinese jailed for smuggling US military hardware

A Chinese national has been sentenced to 30 months in a US prison for smuggling or trying to smuggle to China high-tech US military hardware, the US Justice Department said Wednesday.

Night vision and thermal imaging rifle scopes were among the items involved, Reuters reports.

Kan Chen, 26, of Ningbo, Zhejiang province, was found guilty of illegally exporting or trying to export more than 180 items worth over US$275,000 to China, the department said in a statement.

He was also sentenced to three years of supervised release.

Chen was arrested in Saipan in June 2015 and pleaded guilty in March this year.
