A six-year-old boy was run over and killed by a taxi after he slipped from his mother’s grip and darted across the road in Tuen Mun.
The woman was holding the boy’s hand as they waited to cross Sze Wui Road at about 5 p.m. Tuesday when he got away and ran in the path of the taxi, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports.
The taxi struck him and he ended up pinned under it before horrified onlookers.
The impact bashed his skull, likely killing him instantly, according to police investigators.
The boy was brought to hospital where he was certified dead.
The driver said he did not see the victim but sensed a hard object under the floor of the vehicle.
He was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving, Apple Daily reports. Investigations are continuing.
The boy was born in Hong Kong to mainlanders and had only been accepted to a Tuen Mun grade school.
