Mong Kok MTR station suffers power outage during rush hour

A suspected short-circuit plunged part of Mong Kok MTR Station into darkness for a while during evening rush hour on Thursday.

Most of the lights on the platform for trains bound for Tsuen Wan went out, but train services were not affected, RTHK reported.

The power was back on after a little more than 30 minutes.

Several escalators stopped functioning due to the power outage, according to the report

Tail rail operator sent staff to help passengers at the scene.

Some commuters complained that MTR was slow in its response, while others remarked that things could have got dangerous as the power outage happened during the evening when the station was crowded.

In another incident recently, MTR’s Central Station suffered a power failure, affecting the concourse as well as the platforms for Island Line trains.

Lights were out for around six hours before power was restored.
