Man, 60, attempts suicide after killing wife

A 60-year-old man is believed to have attempted suicide over the weekend after killing his wife following a heated argument at their home in To Kwa Wan.

In the early hours of Sunday, an elderly man was pulled out from the sea in Hung Hom after the police received a call that a person had jumped into the waters.

Investigations revealed that the man was the husband of a woman who was found strangled in her flat a few hours ago.

The woman, aged 41, was found unconscious by her daughter when the latter returned to the apartment in Double Mansion on Pau Chung Street around midnight.

The daughter was horrified as she saw her mother lying unconscious in bed with her mouth sealed with tape.

Police arrived at the scene and found bruises on her neck and blood stains in her eye corners. The woman was taken to the Kwong Wah Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

According to an RTHK report, the deceased and her husband had recently filed for divorce. A bitter quarrel at around 10 pm on Saturday is believed to have prompted the man to strangle his wife.

Following his crime, the elderly man is suspected to have gone to Hung Hom and jumped into the sea in a bid to take his own life.

But he was rescued and has now been arrested on suspicion of homicide.

According to a police officer from the Kowloon City district crime squad, the couple had been married for 18 years and there had been no prior record of any domestic violence involving the two.
