Teenage boy arrested for groping fellow Pokémon GO player

For most Pokémon GO players, catching virtual monsters is a lot of fun, demanding their full attention.

But for a 16-year-old boy, the thrill of the game was not enough because his focus was diverted to a young lady in short skirts seated beside him while they were both playing the mobile game at Tin Sau Road Park in Tin Shui Wai on Sunday.

Unable to control his urges, the teenager groped the 21-year-old lady’s thigh, an act that eventually led to his arrest, Apple Daily reports.

Due to the hot weather, many female players were wearing shorts and miniskirts as they were out in the park.

The victim, a student of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, said she was seated on a bench in the park concentrating on catching the virtual monsters at around 9 p.m., when she suddenly felt someone fondling her thigh.

Seeing the boy, surnamed Fong, seated beside her, and suspecting that he was the one who had groped her, she shouted for help.

Other Pokémon GO players confronted the boy and held him before police arrived and took him away.

The Yuen Long Police Station was following up on the case.

According to Sing Tao Daily, the park is deemed by players as a Pokémon GO hotspot, meaning it is a place where many virtual monsters, including rarely seen ones, often show up.

That’s why players congregate there almost every night since the augmented reality game was released in Hong Kong on July 25.
