A 14-year-old boy was arrested for throwing eggs at a teacher who allegedly assigned too much homework and caused his younger sister to suffer from stress.
Police arrested the teenager, surnamed Lam, after he threw three raw eggs at 39-year-old primary school teacher surnamed Yuen, while the latter was having lunch with her colleagues inside a restaurant at Shek Lei Commercial Complex in Kwai Chung at around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, news website hk01.com reports.
Lam, who attended the school where Yuen is teaching, has a younger sister who is a student of Yuen and was believed to have suffered from stress from heavy school work.
It was said that Lam’s sister refused to go to school for fear of being burdened with more school work.
Lam’s parents had earlier met with school officials regarding their daughter’s situation, but was reportedly told the amount of work given to students is reasonable.
Lam, together with two cousins, stormed into the restaurant, approached Yuen and unleashed three raw eggs at the latter before running away.
Four teachers at the dining table chased the three teenagers, and caught Lam at Shek Lei Estate.
Shek Lei Catholic Primary School principal Tang Lit-man confirmed to media that a female teacher of the school was injured while having lunch at a nearby restaurant.
The teacher was now well, he said.
Tang stressed that it was not because of homework that Lam’s sister skipped classes, but he refused to comment further, saying the case was now in the hands of the police.
