20-year-old heart transplant recipient dies

A Hong Kong student has died two months after receiving a heart transplant.

Queen Mary Hospital confirmed that 20-year-old Ma Cheuk-long, who had a heart transplant in June, died on Tuesday night due to multiple organ failure, RTHK reports.

The Chinese University student, who was facing terminal heart failure, received a heart donation after his parents made a tearful public appeal.

But his condition remained unstable after the surgery and he was kept alive by a heart and lung machine, according to RTHK.

Ma suffered from myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscles.
