A South Korean man was killed after he was thrown off his bike and slammed into a minibus.
The 40-year-old man, surnamed Choi, was rushed unconscious to North Lantau Hospital where he was later certified dead, Headline Daily reports.
The bus driver, surnamed Wai, 44, told police he saw Choi barelling down a narrow road in the opposite lane.
Wai said he pulled over to give way to Choi but the Korean lost control of the bike, vaulting several meters before crashing into his parked vehicle.
The impact hurled the victim another 10 meters onto a grassy plot.
Choi was riding along with a companion when the accident occurred in Discovery Valley Road in Discovery Bay where he lived, according to Apple Daily.
Both were wearing safety helmets.
Sources said Choi, a US passport holder and IT specialist, was a sports fanatic who liked to go outdoors on his day off.
Police impounded the bike and the minibus as part of their investigation.
They are looking into a suspected mechanical failure on the bicycle.
Choi had a wife and a two-year-old daughter.
