China has once again surpassed the United States in the number of dollar billionaires this year.
The country has 594 billionaires against 535 in the US, BBC News reports, citing the annual list compiled by Shanghai-based Hurun Report.
Property magnate Wang Jianlin of Dalian Wanda heads China’s billionaires club, followed by Alibaba’s Jack Ma, whose wealth has risen 41 percent from last year, the British broadcaster said.
Earlier this year, Hurun released a separate, global list, showing that the number of billionaires in China outnumbered those in the US for the first time.
According to Hurun, Wang Jianlin has a personal fortune of US$32.1 billion.
His company Dalian Wanda is considered the world’s biggest private property developer and largest cinema chain operator, owning Wanda Cinemas and Australia’s Hoyts Group.
The conglomerate has been aggressively snapping up assets in the US and elsewhere in the world.
Jack Ma’s net worth is placed at US$30.6 billion, while Pony Ma of internet giant Tencent comes third on the Hurun list with US$24.6 billion.
