China couple sorry after stealing toilet seat from Nagoya hotel

A Chinese couple has been caught stealing an electronic toilet seat from a Japanese hotel.

The theft was discovered when the couple, who had arrived in Nagoya on Monday, were checking out, Apple Daily reports.

When confronted by hotel staff, they denied the theft but subsequently admitted it after the matter was reported to the police.

The stolen item was returned to the hotel.

The incident exploded on China’s social media where the identity of the couple was quickly uncovered.

The wife works as a bank manager in Taizhou.

The couple later issued an apology via their travel agent.

They said they thought the toilet seat had been left behind by another guest because it was inside a box under the bed.

They said they only took it because they thought no one wanted it.

The couple is still in Nagoya.

They said they will apologise to the hotel in person on Friday.

The hotel has dropped theft charges against them.
