Teen pulls off bizarre car thefts three nights in a row

A teenager repeatedly stole a Land Rover from his neighbors in order to show it off to friends.

He drove away with the 1 million yuan (US$148,000) vehicle for three straight nights in Hangzhou before he was caught, Tencent News reports.

The suspect, surnamed Zhang, 19, was arrested after the owner of the vehicle reported the theft to the police.

Policemen used CCTV footage from the owner’s luxury apartment to track Zhang down.

He said he did not do it for money, adding he always returned the car — squeaky clean and with a full tank — after showing it to his friends.

It turns out Zhang has been involved previously in similar shenanigans to attract attention.

He has been jailed and fined 500 yuan (US$74).
