Assault charge against Indonesian maid’s employer dismissed

A court has found a real estate agent not guilty of charges that she beat up her Indonesian domestic helper.

Liu Xinhong, 44, was cleared of a common assault charge filed by her 35-year-old maid Hindun Fitriah, Apple Daily reports.

Kwun Tong magistrate Debbie Ng Chung-yee ruled that Fitriah had been exaggerating in her testimony, withholding information and avoiding questions at times.

The helper was found to have exaggerated considerably the extent of her injuries, based on her records at a hospital’s accident and emergency ward where she had undergone a medical examination.

Liu was accused of attacking Fitriah at her residence in Tseung Kwan O on July 6, allegedly resulting in injuries to the helper’s face, back and head as well as her pelvis and eyes.

However, the hospital records showed that she did not sustain injuries on the pelvis and eyes.

The magistrate also rejected Fitriah’s application to claim a witness allowance.

According to the helper, Liu accused her of not performing her cleaning duties well and started slapping and kicking her, sina.com.hk reported.

Fitriah then ran out of the apartment and sought help from a domestic helpers’ association.

During the hearing, Liu’s lawyer questioned why Fitriah had waited three days before seeking a medical examination of the injuries she allegedly sustained.
