Bangladeshi torture claimant denies charge of indecent assault

A 30-year-old man from Bangladesh has pleaded not guilty to a charge of indecent assault filed against him at the Eastern Magistrates’ court.

The court heard on Monday that his alleged victim, a woman in her 20s, went to Shek O to join a music camp with friends on Aug. 13, Apple Daily reports.

At around 3 a.m. the next day, she said she went to the beach to play the mobile game Pokémon Go.

Then a South Asian man in his swimming trunks suddenly approached her and grabbed her by the waist, asking her to have sex with him, she said.

She tried to run away out of extreme fear but the man stopped her by grabbing her wrist before she managed to free herself and flee, she said.

A social worker at the camp called the police after learning about the incident from her.

The defendant’s lawyer questioned her claim, saying it was very likely that she mistook him for someone else because their encounter lasted only a few seconds and the light was quite dim when the alleged assault took place.

The woman said in a firm tone that the man who assaulted her was indeed the defendant, who the police found is a torture claimant.

The hearing continues on Tuesday.
