Doctor sues married boyfriend to get back HK$22.5 mln cash, flat

A lady doctor has sued her boyfriend after learning that he is married, demanding the return of more than HK$22.5 million representing the cash, personal gifts and a flat she had given him during their relationship.

The plaintiff, surnamed Chu, asked the High Court for a summary judgment on Thursday, saying the man, who is an online fortune teller by trade, cheated her, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports.

According to her complaint, Chu met the man, surnamed Sin, online in 2009 and sought his advice over some feng shui issues before they began seeing each other.

Eventually, they became romantically involved.

But after she started bringing up the prospects of marriage, Sin suddenly vanished in December last year.

She later found that he has been married since May 2014 but had kept it a secret from her.

When she finally was able to meet him again, Chu asked him to return the things she had given him when they were still together, including HK$8 million in cash, a watch, electronic devices, a used car and a flat at La Cite Noble, a residential estate in Tseung Kwan O which is registered under Sin.

All in all they were worth HK$22.58 million, Chu said.

The defendant said he chose to disappear because he did not know how to break up with her without hurting her, Sing Tao Daily reported.

Still, it appears that he is not ready to give her back the cash and the flat, claiming they were given to him out of love and affection.
