It’s not the likeliest venue for it, but Pacific Place was engaged in a cat-and-mouse game against a rodent.
The luxury mall in Admiralty was thrown into chaos when the foot-long mouse ran out of a restaurant and used the baluster to wreak havoc, Apple Daily reports.
A video shows people scrambling to get away from its path as it zig-zagged past them, using the polished handrail to escape.
It’s not clear if the animal was caught.
A witness who happened to be an Apple Daly reporter said the mouse suddenly emerged from a restaurant on Level 1 at about 5 p.m. and entered a coffee shop.
It moved back and forth on top of a dessert cabinet before horrified staff who shouted for help.
Their screams attracted onlookers and soon the commotion had become a major spectacle.
Security guards closed the door of the coffee shop before they began a hunt.
The door was still closed two hours later.
A Pacific Place spokesman said the mall treats the incident very seriously. A pest control company has been hired to conduct disinfection of all affected areas.
Full-scale cleaning is a daily routine at the mall, the spokesman said, adding that an investigation into the incident will be conducted.
