A BMW X5 sport utility vehicle (SUV) caught fire while being driven by a garage mechanic.
The incident happened at around 3 p.m. Wednesday in Kowloon City Road while the SUV was being brought back to its owner in To Kwa Wan after repairs, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports.
The driver said he pulled over after he saw the car emit smoke from the front.
Firemen arrived at the scene and the fire was put out after an hour.
The SUV was gutted but no one was injured.
Traffic was briefly tangled up and nearby buildings had their walls blackened by the smoke.
In May, a BMW M5 had a fire scare when its driver noticed thick smoke from its exhaust.
The rear of the car was slightly charred.
