Two separate incidents of child molestation in Sau Mau Ping and Ngau Tau Kok recently have raised fears among parents in the two districts.
The suspect has reportedly sexually harassed at least two girls, aged eight and 11, in the eastern Kowloon area this month, Sing Tao Daily reports, citing police sources.
Police said the suspect is 30 to 40 years old, around 1.7 meters tall, with black hair and a skinny build.
The first case happened on Nov. 2, when a 11-year-old girl was walking to a tutorial center near the MTR station in Ngau Tau Kok.
She said she was first touched by a man on her thigh, but she dismissed it as an accident, until she met him again last Thursday at the same spot and he proceeded to touch her private parts.
She immediately ran to the tutorial center, and told her parents about it later that night after they noticed that she looked scared.
On Monday, at around 9 p.m., an eight-year-old girl went to dinner with her mother at her grandparents’ place in Sau Mau Ping.
She later went out to a nearby convenience store to buy ice cream.
On her way back, a man pulled her to the back of the staircase and touched her.
After being told of the incident, the mother immediately called the police, who are now reviewing video clips from surveillance cameras in the building to identify the suspect.
The case is now being handled by the Sau Mau Ping District Crime Squad.
As word about the two incidents spread, many parents are now picking up their children from school, while others blame the police to announcing the news rather late, Ming Pao Daily News reported.
A mother, surnamed Cheuk, said she has decided to pick up her nine-year-old daughter after school because she is worried the girl is too young to comprehend any situation or say no to instances of harassment.
Another mother, surnamed Siu, said she warned her primary four daughter against talking to strangers, adding that she hopes the perpetrators will be caught as soon as possible.
