Man, 45, denies indecent assault on domestic helper

A 45-year-old man pleaded not guilty in a Hong Kong court Wednesday after he was charged with indecent assault on his foreign domestic helper.

The defendant, who bears the surname Wong and is a driver by profession, was accused of touching his maid inappropriately and making lewd proposals.

According to prosecutors, Wong began making advances towards the domestic helper, who is an Indonesian national, shortly after the woman began working for him.

He started by asking her one day to give him a body massage. The maid didn’t suspect anything and complied with the request, thinking she was helping him.

After the massage, Wong is said to have offered HK$100 to the maid.

A few days later, he again sought a similar service. But this time, as he was getting the massage he touched the Indonesian woman inappropriately, according to prosecutors.

The maid panicked and questioned him as to what he was doing. Wong is then said to have replied that he could offer her a lot of money.

“You give me a massage and I will reciprocate,” he told her, indicating his interest in a physical relationship.

The maid told the court that she was abused physically three times between October 3 and 8.

On one occasion, Wong rubbed himself against her from behind as she was hanging up wet laundry.

When the maid protested, Wong offered an excuse that he was merely trying to steady her and prevent her from tumbling to the ground.

According to the maid, Wong had touched her thigh while she was sleeping, and also while she was working in the kitchen.

When he groped her in the kitchen, he is said to have slipped a HK$100 bill into the maid’s trouser pocket.

Wong has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to indecent assault.

The court hearing continues on Thursday.
