Mainlander loses HK$4 mln to robbers at Sheung Shui flyover

A mainland man lost HK$4 million in foreign currencies to four men who attacked him while he was walking on a flyover connecting Sheung Shui Centre to the MTR station on Friday morning.

The four suspects are believed to be of South Asian ethnicity, and one of them wielded a knife, hk01.com reports.

The robbers fled with his suitcase, which contained no money, and his backpack which had US$448,000 and 80,000 euros.

The victim, who sustained an injury to his left ankle, was taken to the North District Hospital. No one has been arrested yet.

Witnesses said the suspects had been waiting for the man, who is believed to be regularly transporting cash across the border, at least 30 minutes before he was seen walking on the flyover.

Apple Daily said the man, 39, is a holder of a two-way permit.

A woman distributing free newspapers at the scene said the four suspects fled in both directions after grabbing the man’s belongings.
