A 53-year-old tour bus driver has been arrested after he fatally knocked down an elderly woman in Kwun Tong and drove away.
The accident took place at about 1 p.m. on Tuesday when the 88-year-old woman, surnamed Cheung, was crossing Hong Ning Road, Ming Pao Daily reports.
Cheung was hit and run over by the bus at high speed.
Her shoes, walking stick, false teeth and personal belongings were left scattered on the ground.
Police officers arrived at the scene after receiving a report from a witness and sent the woman to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
They found the bus in Wan Chai two hours later but the driver was nowhere in sight.
The vehicle’s plate number later led police to the driver, surnamed Lam.
Lam was charged with dangerous driving causing death, leaving without stopping after causing an accident and failing to report to police after causing an accident.
Another hit-and-run happened on Tuesday when an 18-year-old man, surnamed Lee, was rammed by a car as he tried to cross Clear Water Bay Road in Ngau Chi Wan, according to Apple Daily.
A video clip from a dash cam shows the man standing on a concrete island and waiting for a white car to make a U-turn in front of him.
As soon as he steps out after the white car turns, a dark-colored vehicle appears and hits him from behind at high speed.
The victim suffered serious injuries and was brought to hospital but his condition is not known.
