Youngspiration and Hong Kong National Party (HKNP) have had their booths canceled at the Lunar New Year flower market in Victoria Park.
The pro-independence groups said they received notices from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department regarding the cancellations, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports.
HKNP said authorities cited “significant chances of disrupting public order” for the move, fearing the parties will sell or distribute materials promoting Hong Kong independence.
The groups criticized the government for banning them from conducting ordinary business and for “showing no respect for human rights”.
HKNP said all political parties should be banned from operating booths at the flower market.
It said it was planning to sell merchandise promoting Hong Kong independence “in its own way”, according to thestandnews.com.
Youngspiration said it had yet to finalize the items they wanted to display at the fair, adding the order had made their plans moot.
It said the order had been given by “someone at the top” of the government.
