A four-year-old boy is in critical condition after falling from his 12th-floor home in Tai Po.
The boy, surnamed Lee, fell from an apartment in the Mayfair By The Sea when he leaned out of a window, Ming Pao Daily reports.
He hit a canopy before landing on the platform and was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital.
A security guard found him lying on the platform unconscious and called the police.
The boy had wandered into the master bedroom around noontime before the accident.
According to the boy’s 29-year-old mother, he was playing in the living room and went to the bedroom and somehow managed to lock the door.
She tried to open the door with a spare key but failed and decided to call a security guard for help.
The boy could have tried to find a way out through the balcony and fell.
Police found a chair in the balcony which he might have used to climb to a window, according to Apple Daily.
He was lucky to have hit a canopy which helped slow his fall. He sustained multiple bone fractures, according to the police. The boy is in an intensive care unit.
Sources said his mother is in Hong Kong on a two-way permit.
