Guangzhou zoo denies concealing zebra attack on worker

A zoo in Guangzhou is denying it tried to conceal a zebra attack on a worker, saying the incident happened in December, not during the Lunar New Year.

Chimelong Safari Park said the worker suffered only minor injuries and was able to return to work soon after the attack, Sing Tao Daily reports.

A two-minute video clip that has gone viral online shows a zebra biting the arm of a worker. The zebra is next shown dragging the man around while other workers chase after them.

The video surfaced just days after a man was mauled to death by a tiger in Ningbo Youngor Zoo in Zhejiang province. The incident was also caught on video and posted on social media.

In the Guangzhou incident, the uploader said it took place on Monday and accused zoo officials of trying to conceal it.

The zoo said the victim, surnamed Li, has recovered and the zebra has been removed. It said the incident occurred in December, according to Apple Daily.

It said the incident did not happen in the visitor’s section but some saw it.

Some netizens said the date claimed by the uploader was wrong but others said the zoo had no intention of releasing the information to the public.
