Man plunges to death after failed robbery at exchange shop

A man fell to his death while trying to evade arrest after a failed robbery at a money exchange.

The 36-year-old suspect, surnamed Cheung, jumped from his room in his 27th-floor Chuk Yuen North Estate flat in Wong Tai Sin as police knocked on his door, Sing Tao Daily reports.

He was in the same clothing as that worn by a suspect in an attempted robbery earlier at a Western Union shop in Nathan Road.

The incident was captured by a CCTV camera.

It shows a masked man in a black jacket handing a note to a female employee and repeatedly flashing a gun.

The 24-year-old woman, surnamed Chan, tries to distract the suspect before finally pressing an alarm button to alert the police.

The suspect left when the woman told him his whereabouts had been given to the officers.

The police tracked the suspect down to his flat hours later.

Investigators said he used a pistol-like object to try to rob the exchange shop.
