Police bust marijuana operation in Disco Bay, foreigners held

Police have smashed a marijuana operation on Lantau Island and arrested three foreigners.

The police raided two flats in Discovery Bay on Saturday morning after receiving a tip-off that some people were growing marijuana there, news website hk01.com reports.

A 48-year-old German man was arrested outside the building and led the police officers to another suspect, a 43-year-old English woman.

Thirty-nine pots of cannabis and cannabis buds worth about HK$750,000 (US$96,637) were seized, along with equipment used to grow and smoke them.

A manual on growing and making marijuana was also confiscated.

According to officials, the flat was in fact a greenhouse equipped with air exhausters, sunlamps, air-conditioners and humidity controllers to facilitate growth of marijuana.

The police moved on another flat in the same building and arrested a 44-year-old Indian man, who was found in possession of marijuana, Headline Daily reports.

The three foreigners were charged with growing cannabis plants, possessing illegal drugs, possessing tools used to take illegal drugs, possessing arms without a license and possessing offensive weapons.

The crime unit of the Lantau District Headquarters, which is in charge of the case, is trying to figure out the relationship between the three suspects, how they got the cannabis buds and their purpose for growing them.
