A couple believed to be troubled by chronic illnesses decided to end it all by jumping off Stonecutters Bridge.
The body of the woman, a 56-year-old surnamed Ng, was found off Tai Lam in Tuen Mun at about 10 a.m. on Thursday. The man, surnamed Lui, 59, is still missing, news website hk01.com reports.
Ng was rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital but was pronounced dead despite efforts to resuscitate her.
CCTV footage from Stonecutters Bridge shows the pair driving their car to the bridge. They then climb over a fence and leap to their deaths.
The couple left a note saying “we decided to end our misery together because of poor health and to pursue the next life with peace”.
The pair also asked the police to help inform their relatives about their decision.
Marine police and rescue teams from the Fire Services Department had searched for the pair overnight. Helicopters from the Government Flying Services also joined the operation, Apple Daily reports.
Police later found two identity cards inside the car. Investigations are continuing.
The couple, who owned a frozen meat company, were not in financial distress, investigators said.
This was the 10th suicide on Stonecutters Bridge since it opened in 2009.
