An Indonesian woman was arrested after she received a parcel containing 250 grams of cocaine hidden in 10 bottles of skin cream.
The postal package arrived at the Chek Lap Kok airport from Brazil on March 3, Sing Tao Daily reports.
According to the Customs and Excise Department, an X-ray scan on the package showed abnormal shadows at the bottom of the cream bottles.
A customs officer on duty suspected the shadows could mean hidden compartments where illegal drugs might be hidden, and reported it to the Customs Drug Investigation Bureau.
Investigators decided not to open the parcel and instead determine first who would be the recipient.
The parcel was sent to a house in Tai Wo Village in Pat Heung, Yuen Long district, on Wednesday.
When a woman signed for the parcel, the investigators on a stakeout showed up and arrested her after confirming 250 grams of cocaine was hidden in the hidden compartments.
The cocaine shipment was estimated to be worth about HK$250,000 (US$32,190).
Initial investigation revealed that the woman, 31, had worked as a domestic helper before her contract expired. She has been staying in Hong Kong with a temporary permit.
She said she received the parcel on someone else’s behalf.
