Woman arrested after acid and knife attack on employer

A woman was arrested over the weekend following a knife and acid attack on a 46-year-old female who runs a foot massage parlor in Hong Kong’s Sham Shui Po district.

According to reports, the suspect, who is aged 48, was an employee of the foot massage parlor that opened for business about nine months ago.

On Sunday, the worker — who bears the surnamed Dan — poured a corrosive liquid onto her boss and also slashed her with a knife repeatedly following an argument over money.

The shocking attack left the boss, a person surnamed Huang, with burns to more than two-thirds of her skin, apart from knife cuts on her face, head and upper body, Apple Daily reports.

According to the report, Dan, who was employed as a foot masseuse, had borrowed money from Huang to gamble.

As the employee had racked up HK$40,000 in debt, Huang is said to have made multiple demands for repayment of the money.

She also threatened to levy interest and fire Dan if the money owed is not returned.

A furious Dan decided to retaliate. She bought a 500ml bottle of acid and a ten-inch fruit knife from a store on Tai Nan Street before going up Huang’s subdivided flat on Tung Chau Street in Tai Kok Tsui.

It is alleged that Dan poured the acid over Huang’s head and also started stabbing her with a knife.

Dan, who was also injured from acid spills on her face and hands, then told a neighbor to call the police.

Huang was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and subsequently transferred to the Prince of Wales Hospital for treatment.

She is now in a critical condition due to the severe injuries. Even in the best case scenario, she could lose her eyesight because of the acid attack.

Dan, meanwhile, is now under treatment at the Kwong Wah Hospital. She has been arrested on charges of causing bodily harm to another person.

Sing Tao Daily cited sources as saying that Dan and Huang both hailed from China’s Hubei province and that they had been patronizing casinos in Macau.

Chung Chi-ming, assistant divisional commander of the Mong Kok Police District, said the police suspect the attack stemmed from financial disputes.

He believes it was a premeditated crime, given that the attacker bought acid and a knife before going up to the victim’s flat.
