Fireman praised for saving kitten on busy road

A fireman is being hailed as a hero for running into the middle of a busy road to rescue a helpless kitten.

Tens of thousands of netizens swamped Kwok Kin-wai’s Facebook page with “likes”, calling him a hero and a man of compassion after reading his account of the incident.

In a post, Kwok said he saw the kitten, about 20 cm. long, curled up and frightened in the middle of Lion Rock Tunnel Road near Hung Mui Kuk at about 7 a.m. on Thursday while riding his motorcycle to work.

As it was rush hour, cars passed by the kitten in both directions, putting it danger.

Kwok thought for a while before getting off his bike and rescuing the animal.

He ran across several lanes in the rain to save the kitten from being hit by the rushing vehicles.

Kwok took the cat to his workplace in Cheung Chau. It was adopted later on Thursday, according Ming Pao Daily.

Kwok expressed his appreciation for some drivers who slowed down their cars to help him in his rescue attempt .
